The Practec story
Auckland in the late 90’s was a time when new technologies, building systems and compliance needs were rapidly evolving. Interior fitouts became more technically challenging for building contractors, and a gap emerged between the architect’s creative vision and the construction solution.
We became interpreters of both the technical literature and design. Bringing the two elements together with a practical approach and extensive technical expertise that became – Practec.
Today, building technologies and materials continue to evolve. And we keep pace. We use skilled trades and resources delivering current best practice, with every solution carefully attuned to each project and each sector. We engage deeply to understand the architect’s and client’s vision, so that even the finest details are considered to ensure a high-performing interior.

Our People
-
Stephen Davies
DIRECTOR
Stephen leads the delivery team to ensure a client’s design vision is achieved within agreed timelines. His specialty is detail resolution, applying a level of focus and accurate workmanship that he developed during his time in engineering pattern-making and refined over more than 35 years in bespoke fitouts.
Practec is frequently asked to tackle challenging projects that other contractors would shy away from. Stephen believes this is driven by the team’s deep technical expertise, ability to think outside the box and natural desire to deliver the best possible outcome for clients.
Going above and beyond normal expectations is a trait Stephen has applied throughout his career and now role-models as a business owner. It is also why clients across the construction sector return to Practec for their next complex fitout.

Steven Fielding
SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR
A specialist in value engineering, Steven uses his contractor network, product knowledge and fitout experience to ensure a client’s project remains viable and on budget. He offers alternative solutions where it makes commercial sense and provides an advantage to the client, without sacrificing quality or design outcomes.
Steven’s influence is felt throughout the lifecycle of a fitout, from measuring and quantifying new tender documents to contract administration and procurement of contractors and specialist materials. His budget estimating skills are called upon to assist clients who have incomplete plans or constrained projects.
Forecasting and regular cost reporting is also a critical part of Steven’s role, ensuring clients know where their budget is sitting. He is methodical and approachable, and a valuable sounding board for both clients and colleagues.
